The HERAS rose.
These custom pieces were used in Sports Banger’s 2022 show ’The People Deserve Beauty’, in collaboration with metal artist Jack Hanson. In order to create the roses, the Heras plates were crowd sourced by the public and pulled from fencing across the UK in exchange for free HERAS tshirts. The sculpted roses were handed out to the audience during the iconic fashion show labelled ‘The best thing at London Fashion Week’ (Vogue 2022). In this instance, 'the Sports Banger collective's use of metal becomes a post-industrial statement on fashion which breaks with its own material connotations. By turning HERAS plates into roses, metal takes the appearance of something else, it becomes a sign of collaboration' (Nathalie Khan, 2022), a theme closely woven into the ethos of HERAS as a label.
